Megan did love to travel. She moved with me three times and adjusted right away. The antics and fun continued, no matter where we were.
I always knew Scotties were smart, but I didn't realize how smart. One day, I came home from work to find Megan burglarized the cupboard where her food was kept. She had opened the door, pulled out the Rubbermaid container, chewed through the security clips and ate 10 lbs. of food. Yes, the whole kit and kaboodle. I followed the little trail of kibble into the living room where I found her fast asleep on the sofa. I woke her to go out, all the while I'm thinking how in the world was she able to eat it all. She moaned, groaned and waddled the whole way to the backdoor. Her belly was expansive. I was so lucky her stomach didn't explode. It took about a week for it to return to normal. I tied the cupboard doors together and she figured out how to untie the cords. Had to end up buying baby locks. Too smart for her own good.
One day I was watching the news and a commercial came on for Dairy Queen Peanut Buster Parfait. I had to have one. So I asked Megan if she wanted to go to "the Queen". She knew "the Queen" because she would get a vanilla kiddie cone. We hopped in the car, I put my brand new car into reverse and hit something. I looked in my rearview mirror to see my garage door was down. The backend of the car was outside, the front still inside the garage.
I opened the front passenger door and told Megan we weren't going to "the Queen". She would not budge. She sat in the front seat all prim and proper, dressed to the 9's looking straight ahead, ignoring me. She obviously wanted her ice cream, so I pulled the car into its original spot. Got outside and began to kick the garage door back into place so that I could open it manually. My neighbor was sitting in their window and witnessed it all. I was laughing so hard because I just wrecked my brand new car trying to take Megan Sue to "the Queen" and she refused to get out of the car.
Unfortunately, no matter what I did to the door, I could not open it. Grabbed Megan and went back in the house. I swear, she pouted the rest of the evening in true Scottie fashion. When I think back, it still makes me laugh hard. Those were the good ole days.
